After opening for a fortnight for the school holidays, the new Daylesford Cinema will close for important work before resuming with a “soft” opening on Thursday, 7 May, and preparing for a grand opening later that month.

“We are having an `intermission’, as it were, from Sunday, April 19,” said the Cinema Group President, Jules McDonald. “Our aim is for the work to be finished after a fortnight.

“We do need to finalise some building and electrical work, and fine-tune a number of technical processes.”

She said completion of disability access and the rear car park were also keenly anticipated.

“That said, we could scarcely have got off to a better start. Up until 15 April 1,519 people attended the cinema. The first night was booked out, as were several other sessions.

“As well, memberships have been enthusiastically taken up and we now have 150 members.”

Ms McDonald added, “We are now working towards a grand opening, which will be a memorable day for Daylesford and the shire.”
