Deacon Josephine Snowdon has filled a vacancy at Christ Church Daylesford which has existed since the departure of the incumbent, Fr Neil Fitzgerald, to the Parish of Woodend in March 2024.

On Sunday 15 September, Deacon Josephine was welcomed to the Parish of Daylesford attending Holy Communion and assisting Fr Malcolm Thomas who has covered during the intervening period.

Josephine grew up in Melbourne, the youngest of four whose family has a strong history in the Anglican ministry.

She pursued a career in Occupational Therapy attaining a Masters degree by research from La Trobe University Bendigo. After working professionally in the regional community, Josephine helped to establish a new rural OT school at Deakin University Geelong in the early 2000s.

She began exploring a call to diaconal ministry in 2014 undertaking theological studies and a variety of lay chaplaincy roles in both the Diocese of Newcastle and Melbourne, alongside parish based lay ministry roles. She was recently ordained a Deacon at St Paul’s Cathedral, Bendigo.

The Parish welcomed Josephine at the service followed by a traditional abundant morning tea and a presentation of beautiful flowers to mark the occasion.

Fr Malcolm will stay on in the Parish as Associate Priest supervising and supporting Josephine in her ministry.
