The first concert in the new Christ Church Concert series will celebrate the voice of Christine Douglas, a recent addition to the local arts community.

The concert, on Saturday, June 24, will include an exciting variety of familiar arias and duets from opera. Mozart, Purcell, Rossini, Puccini and Dvorák are just some of the composers represented. Christine will be performing both the moving and beautiful Dido’s Lament from Dido & Anaeas by Purcell and the famous love song Chanson d’amour by Fauré.

Christine has an extensive operatic career and has worked to develop the next generation of singers. The Christine Douglas Studio Singers include people planning singing careers and others in pursuit of something they’ve always wanted to do. They include Hilana Alouani-Roby, Nadia Cassidy, Larissa Davis, Anna Hoffman, Luana Howard and Jazzie Zuyderwyk.

Christine’s operatic career saw her perform extensively throughout Australia in leading principal roles. Undergraduate studies at the Victorian College of the Arts with Dame Joan Hammond, were followed by a Master of Music Studies at Griffith University.

Following her distinguished operatic career, Christine moved into directing with Opera Australia. She was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to explore best practice in opera training in the UK and USA, following which she founded Pacific Opera, a Sydney based Young Artist development company which now has alumni singing in opera houses around the world.

Christine now has a thriving singing studio in addition to other work and connections with the training of singers. In 2023 Christine was awarded an OAM for Services to Opera.

Accompanist for this concert will be Adam Przewlocki, one of Australia’s leading show choir directors. Some of his choirs have included the Divine Divas of Sunbury to the award-winning Choir of Hard Knocks of which he became Director in 2019. He has enjoyed an illustrious career as concert pianist, chamber musician and accompanist. As recitalist he has performed throughout Australia, USA, Europe, Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan and New Zealand. Adam was Music Director, pianist and vocalist with the renowned cabaret group ‘Pot Pourri’.

Competitively Adam amassed over 200 prizes in Eisteddfods around Australia. With several international piano competitions in the US and Germany he has been a finalist and prizewinner. Study grants and a Churchill fellowship in addition to a full scholarship with London’s Royal Accademy of Music have been part of Adam’s career including performing in various master classes conducted by the likes of András Schif and Alfred Brendel, amongst others.
