Words in Winter is an annual literary and arts festival held in August each year in the Hepburn Shire and surrounding districts. It is a celebration of words, stories and ideas shared by locals and visiting presenters through readings, poetry, theatre, music, talks, workshops, visiting authors and exhibitions.
After an interruption last year because of COVID restrictions, the Festival returns for the 19th time from August 20 -22.
Events are planned throughout the Central Highlands in Daylesford Trentham, Clunes, Creswick and Maryborough.
La Trobe University academic Denis Altman will discuss his book Unrequited Love and his new publication, God Save The Queen: the Strange Persistence of Monarchies, on the opening night of the Festival.
ABC investigative journalist Louise Milligan, will be on hand to discuss her new book, Witness.
Hilary McPhee, a publisher and influential leader of Australia’s literary community, in conversation with journalist and co-director of the festival, Kevin Childs, will discuss her memoir, Other People’s Houses.
Richmond football supporters will have a chance to hear Konrad Marshall talk about his year embedded with the Richmond Football Club and his three books about the Club.
Novelist Arnold Zable, recently awarded an Australian Council lifetime achievement award, will talk by Zoom with the internationally acclaimed author of No Friend but the Mountains, Behrouz Boochani, about his harrowing time as a refugee prisoner on Manus Island.
