The 14-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid Course is for adults such as school staff, parents, sports coaches, community group leaders and youth workers who work with, live with or care for adolescents.

The workshop is being sponsored by Hepburn Shire Council and Youth Gurus.

The workshop offering comes as the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System has found that a lack of resources has forced mental health services to turn away many people unless they were in absolute crisis. The Commission report has called for a new Health and Well Being Act and an independent authority to hold the government to account.

What you will learn in the Youth Mental Health First Aid workshop…

You will learn how to assist an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is available or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based action plan.

You can find out more about the course by going to the Mental Health First Aid website.

The course is being offered free of charge at The Warehouse, 36 Fraser St, Clunes, from Tuesday, April 6 to Friday April 9. Participants must attend each morning from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon to complete the qualification.
