This autumn, Paradise Bookshop is turning a new page with the launch of its community book launch series, dedicated to celebrating new books by published authors from the Daylesford and Hepburn region.

After three years at the helm of the beloved, long-standing bookshop, owners Devon Taylor and Joseph Zizys are launching the series with a simple but powerful mission: to officially launch and celebrate new works by the published talent writing in their own community.

“Paradise Bookshop has been a cherished part of Daylesford for over 30 years, and we feel incredibly privileged to be its current custodians,” said Devon Taylor. “We’ve spent the last three years getting to know this community. Now, it feels like the perfect time to start creating events that spotlight the incredible, published talent writing books right here in our own backyard.”

The series kicks off with the official launches of two very different, but equally compelling, new books.

Mushroom Day by Alison Pouliot
Thursday, 26th March, 5pm – 6pm

Celebrated ecologist Alison Pouliot launches her latest published work, Mushroom Day. Devon Taylor will sit down with Pouliot to discuss her deep dive into the fungal kingdom, exploring the hidden world beneath our feet. It’s a rare chance to hear from a scientist whose work bridges both hemispheres and has been praised as “popular science at its very best.”

The Baker’s Percentage by Mara Ripani
Thursday, 16th April, 6pm-7pm

Local baker and community builder Mara Ripani will celebrate the release of her first published book, The Baker’s Percentage. The evening will be a true taste of Daylesford hospitality, featuring a warm conversation about the art of sourdough, followed by a chance to enjoy Mara’s homemade bread, cheese, and even take home a sample of her own leaven starter to celebrate her published debut.

Both book launch events are free and open to the public. Copies of Mushroom Day (and Alison’s other books) and The Baker’s Percentage will be available for purchase and signing at the launches, and can also be purchased at Paradise Bookshop in the weeks leading up to each event.
