The Victorian State Government is delivering more homes for women and their children at risk of homelessness.
Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas has announced the completion of 14 homes for women at risk of or experiencing homelessness, including single mums, older women, and women escaping family violence.
Ms Thomas said: “This significant investment will make the world of difference for women in our community who need the stability and safety of a roof over their heads, to get ahead and thrive.”
The new homes are providing safe places for women in Daylesford, Ballarat, Roxburgh Park and Coburg.
The State Government invested $5.5 million to build 14 modern, energy efficient and recently completed homes in partnership with Women’s Property Initiatives who invested $2 million.
The homes have modern, flexible layouts, communal outdoor spaces and front gardens to strengthen neighbourly connections and a sense of security.
They are also sustainable with all-electric designs and up to 8.1-star NatHERS ratings, as well as compliance with the Liveable Housing Design Standard.
Families will be a part of their local communities, with good access to public transport, schools, parks, medical services and shopping centres.
These projects are part of the Victorian State Government’s record investment to meet the need for social and affordable housing options across Victoria and get more people into safe and secure homes.
Through the $6.3 billion Big Housing Build and Regional Housing Fund, the State Government is delivering more than 13,300 social and affordable homes across Victoria – with more than 11,800 homes already complete or underway.
