Christ Church Concerts begins its 2025 season with The Mad Lover, featuring soprano Kate Macfarlane and harpist Hannah Lane on Saturday, 8 March at 2:30 PM in Daylesford’s Christ Church. The concert will present a selection of music exploring themes of love, longing, and reflection.

Following her performance in last year’s season opener, Lane returns with Macfarlane to perform a program that blends 17th-century English mad songs, folk melodies, and contemporary compositions. The repertoire includes works by Henry Purcell, John Eccles, Benjamin Britten, and Kate Moore.

Macfarlane, described as having a “pure and expressive” voice (The Herald Sun), has performed extensively in opera, lieder, and oratorio in both Germany and Australia. She holds a Master’s degree in Baroque vocal performance from the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and has collaborated with groups such as Adelaide Baroque, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, and Victorian Opera.

Lane, praised for her skill on historical harps, is known for her thoughtful interpretations and technical proficiency. She is a principal harpist with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Pinchgut Opera and has performed at festivals including the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music and the Adelaide Festival.

This program brings together baroque and folk traditions in an intimate performance, highlighting the expressive potential of voice and harp.

The concert will take place at Christ Church, 54 Central Springs Road, Daylesford. Tickets are available online via TryBooking. For further details, visit the Daylesford – Christ Church Concerts Facebook page.

Don’t miss this enchanting musical experience—a celebration of love, longing, and the timeless beauty of baroque and folk traditions.
