Christmas preparations are starting to show on the streets of Daylesford especially in the Vincent Street shopping district.
Twenty-two “Wombat Trees” have been placed in Vincent St to enliven the festive spirit. A group of volunteers from the Daylesford Men’s’ Shed and Rotary, assisted by a Shire crew, placed the trees on Monday.
The trees are adorned with nearly 1000 locally decorated wombats painted by local school children and members of community groups. The trees were made by the Daylesford Men’s Shed in conjunction with Daylesford Rotary with funding and support from the Daylesford District Community Bank and Hepburn Shire.
Many businesses got behind the initiative to celebrate with new decorations prominent all around town.
This year also saw large colourful bows added to the streetscape adding to the festive atmosphere. These bows are a welcome addition to the community’s effort to embrace the festive season. Large red bows have been placed around trees in adjoining streets and many houses in the town are displaying displays of lights.
