This coming Sunday, November 27th at 4pm, Yandoit’s old church in the bush will come alive with the sounds of Didgeridoo, harp, flute and viola. The Digeridoo will be played by played by Amos Roach, a proud Ngarrandjerri and Djab Wurrung/Gunditj Mara man who is the son of Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter. Amos will be joined by harpist Jacinta Dennett, flautist Johanna Sellick and violist William Vyvyan Murray.
“Didgeridoo, Debussy and the Birds of Oz” is a vibrant art music program featuring acclaimed musicians playing Claude Debussy’s wonderland dreamscapes Syrinx (1913) and the Sonate for flute, viola, and harp (1915), blended with contemporary Australian ensemble and solo compositions themed around our connections to nature and to each other. The compelling experience is inspired by experiencing the joy of nature’s music and connects music and audiences with our timeless and ongoing connection to Country.
A highlight of the performance will be a Yandoitian Birdbath, an audio-visual celebration of the local Yandoit birdlife featuring photography by Jodie Heap accompanied by Debussy’s Prelude La fille aux cheveux de lin [The girl with the flaxen hair] (1909) arranged for harp solo.
Successfully reaching a diverse Victorian regional, Melbourne, and First Nations audience, these acclaimed artists continue to share their vision to celebrate and create their own compositions for this unique blend of instruments.
