Danny Moynihan, Hepburn Shire Citizen of the Year in 2022, has clocked up another amazing community service achievement. Danny has now served 40 years as a member of Daylesford Rotary Club which is the only Community Service Club still operating in the Daylesford area.

Danny and his late wife Roz ran the Daylesford Post Office for three decades. This role allowed them to be a key point in the community for locals and others to seek information and support.

“There have been many highlights that I cherish working with Rotary over the forty years,” said Danny. “Some of the local projects have included the Daylesford Art Show, the Schools Music Night, supporting the Hospital and the CFA, student training, and Rotary scholarships for students. Overseas projects have included Medical aid for Children, Polio Plus, Shelter Boxes and financial support for many overseas causes.”

Being awarded as Shire Citizen of the Year in 2022 was recognition for Danny’s involvement in more than 25 community organisations and roles in the community since arriving here.

In Daylesford Rotary, Danny has served as President in 1990/91 and 2024 as well as being on the local Rotary Board for many years. Danny is now taking on the role of Club Treasurer from Alan Harrison who has done a wonderful job looking after the finances for 20 years.

Another highlight of the Daylesford Rotary Club’s meeting on Thursday 10th April was Club President Koos Hulst handing over the Presidency to Lesley Hewitt. The Club has been operating with four Rotarians each taking on the President’s role for 3 months for 2024-25 and will continue this arrangement for 2025-26.

“Our Club has seen a resurgence of activity over the past year,” Koos said. “More social events are taking place as well as working with the Wombat Post on a series of guest speaker events known as Daylesford Conversations. Hal Swerisson spoke on 27 March at a well attended session on ‘Has Medicare reached its Use By date?’”

“In February we hosted a most informative speaker talking about amazing work Rotarians are doing  in Nepal to establish a school for nurses which our Rotarian, Jenny Hopkins has been involved in.”
