Hepburn Shire celebrates Victorian Seniors Festival with free local events
Council will be hosting a variety of local events during the Victorian Seniors Festival, which runs from 1–31 October every year. The 2026 theme is ‘Connect, Create and Celebrate’.
The Victorian Seniors Festival is one of the state’s largest annual celebrations of older Victorians, delivered by Council of the Ageing Victoria and Seniors Rights Victoria in partnership with all 79 Victorian councils and more than 500 community organisations and clubs. Last year’s festival delivered over 4,700 free and low-cost events across the state, and 2026 is expected to be just as big, with thousands of activities on offer from live music and film to art, technology classes, gentle exercise and community lunches.
Mayor, Cr Tony Clark, is encouraging residents to come along to Hepburn Shire’s free opportunities, which include cinema and music.
“I strongly encourage our over-55s to pick up a guide to the festival and lock in some dates. We are excited to be screening two free films at the Phoenix Cinema in Daylesford, with afternoon tea provided, and hosting a concert at the John Curtin Aged Care in Creswick.”
The festival guide will be available on 1 September and can be collected from Coles supermarkets or our local libraries.
There will be statewide celebrations for the whole of October. Victorians can also take advantage of nine days of free public transport for Seniors Card holders, running from 3–11 October, and the festival’s flagship Celebration Day at Federation Square on 3 October, which runs from midday to 7pm with free entertainment and activities for all ages.
“Reuben Morgan, playing at the John Curtin Aged Care, is an acclaimed artistic director, conductor and composer and we are fortunate to have an artist of this calibre perform for us. I hope as many people as possible can take advantage of these free events.”
Registration is via the QR code found on the program, or via Eventbrite.
The morning matinee films to be shown in Daylesford are ‘UP’ on 5 October, and ‘Song Sung Blue’ on 19 October.
Tickets are free for seniors, but are limited.
