A 51 year old Daylesford man has been charged with aggravated assault by police following complaints by a solo female bush walker.

Sarah Gibbs, a 30 year old woman, made complaints to police that allege she was assaulted by a man while she was alone walking the track between Ballarat and Bendigo.

Ms Gibbs alleges the man approached her near Lake Daylesford, touched her hair and hand, used sexually explicit language and attempted to lead her off the track.

It has been reported that a Daylesford shop owner said a man matching the same description had allegedly previously assaulted women outside her store.

Initially police said no criminal offence was detected in relation to Ms Gibbs complaint. They have subsequently charged a man with aggravated assault.

The man has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear in the Ballarat Magistrate’s Court on April 9.
