If you were thinking that Words in Winter was just for adults, think again! The festival is far more than an adults-only affair. The program this year is bursting with events designed especially for children, teens, and families, offering comics workshops, musical storytelling, monsters and chances for young people to share their own voices. There’s something to spark every imagination.
Storytime at the Library
A warm and enchanting storytime featuring local authors Kate Foulds and Claire Clifton, along with visiting author Julie Murphy. Delight in imaginative tales—perfect for little readers and families alike.

School Writing Awards — with guest author Emma Gourlay & Ruby West-Dawson
A celebration of young writers from Yandoit, Daylesford, St Michaels, Dharma, Creswick, and Trentham primary schools. Guest author Emma Gourlay will present awards and engage in conversation with Ruby West-Dawson (they/them), a young person from Paradise Bookshop. It’s a proud moment for the whole community—cheer on local talent and enjoy the thrill of stories brought to life.
