DNC Invaded by Daylesford College Students

A group of Daylesford College students last week descended on DNC for their latest episode of a cutting-edge gardening program.

Mow to Grow students attack the DNC garden.

Mow2Grow is a Central Highlands Rural Health Population Health initiative in partnership with the College that aims to promote student self-esteem, confidence, and emotional intelligence and improve their overall mental well-being through hands-on learning outside the classroom.

The Year 9 and 10 students offered to help DNC by cleaning up our lawns and gardens which were overgrown after the recent rains!

The Mow2Grow students showed off their skills including mowing, the safe use of power tools, and general gardening skills while learning about environmental sustainability and also establishing future employment opportunities.

DNC is grateful to the students, teachers and mentors for helping keep our community service establishment looking good (and bringing an atmosphere of youthful noise, glee and delight).  We were also delighted to enable the students to engage with this industry-based education experience.

Thanks also to the Stihl Shop (1/4400 Midland Hwy, Daylesford VIC 3460) who supplied the equipment for the trailer and who were onsite to provide support.

DNC Manager Danny Liversidge proudly shows off our new heat pump.

More Hot Water for Homeless Shower

Due to the huge success of Hepburn Energy’s recent heat pump hot water bulk buy DNC was one of two local community groups who have received a free hot water system!  Heat pumps are highly-efficient water heaters and make a great energy-efficient alternative to electric, gas or wood systems.

Our Homeless Shower and Laundry program under-estimated the demand for the facility and was built with only a 50 litre tank.  We now have multiple users per day with some running out of hot water mid-shower.  Thanks to the generous donation from Hepburn Energy, we now have a larger capacity heat pump tank.  It now enables those sleeping rough, or other community users to have a decent shower without fear of running out (and it also reduces the costs of providing this service to our community).

Our community thanks Hepburn Energy.

DNC Joke of the Week

The following short quiz consists of 4 questions and tells whether you are qualified to be a “manager”.

The questions are not that difficult.

1-How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?

The correct answer is: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe and close the door.  This question tests whether you tend to do simple things in an overly complicated way.

2-How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

Wrong Answer: Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant and close the refrigerator.

Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant and close the door.

This tests your ability to think through the repercussions of your actions.

3-The Lion King is hosting an animal conference.  All the animals attend except one. Which animal doesn’t attend?

Correct Answer: The Elephant. The Elephant is in the refrigerator.

This tests your memory.

OK, even if you did not answer the first three questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show your abilities.

4-There is a river you must cross. But it is inhabited by crocodiles. How do you manage it?

Correct Answer: You swim across. All the Crocodiles are attending the Animal Meeting!

This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.

[If you’ve got a better joke, (and doesn’t everyone??) send it to  admin@dncentre.org.au  and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! ?).  We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
