Early summer, looking across a sea of green.  Active, happy faces. Wombat Hill rising in the background. And the lob is in!

Tennis is a great game, and the Daylesford Lawn Tennis Club is a great place to play.

The Tennis Club, which started near the lawn bowls club, was established in it’s current West Street location in 1947.

A raft of volunteers and committee members keep the courts open throughout the year. They are currently busily preparing the courts for the opening of the tennis season at the end of October.

Tennis Club Gary Thomas tests out their new mower courtesy of a community grant from Hepburn Council.

Earlier this year, they welcomed a community grant from Hepburn Shire Council to purchase a new ride-on mower for the club.

The club originally had 14 grass courts and 2 hard courts. There are now 10 grass courts and an asphalted area for weather-proof playing and pickleball.

The Club is in the process of releasing its spare land for housing development. The money raised will be used to create a new clubrooms, re-seed the courts and provide all-weather, all year round play opportunities.

The Daylesford tennis community is very welcoming to all people.  It is a kind, inclusive space, with a focus on pleasant and joyful physical activity, from beginners to more experienced players.

This season there are come-and-try nights on Tuesday (Contact Haig:  sevenheavens@bigpond.com), twilight social competition Thursday (contact Nigel:  N1gelwh1terdm@gmail.com, and individual aggregate competitions on Saturday afternoon. And there are programs for juniors as well. The robust Hotshots and Junior program runs on Saturday mornings (contact Stephanie: stephiebarron@yahoo.com). It’s a lovely way to spend some quality time.
