Learn the Art of Fruit Tree Pruning with Permaculture Educator Gareth Devenish

As autumn approaches and gardens begin to slow, the coming weeks offer an ideal opportunity for locals to learn one of the most valuable skills for maintaining healthy, productive fruit trees.  As part of The Paddock Project, the Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre will host a free community fruit tree pruning workshop and demonstration on Sunday 15 March, led by respected permaculture educator and tree specialist Gareth Devenish.  Founder of The Farm Tree Nursery, Gareth has spent many years growing, propagating and working closely with trees suited to Australian conditions.  His work focuses on helping people develop practical skills to care for fruit trees and build resilient, productive gardens.

Pruning plays an essential role in supporting tree health, improving fruit quality and extending the life of backyard orchards yet many people feel unsure about where to begin or worry about damaging their trees.  This hands-on workshop will offer clear, practical guidance on when and how to prune, how to shape young and mature trees, and how thoughtful care can improve long-term productivity.  Participants will have the opportunity to observe techniques firsthand and ask questions in a relaxed, supportive environment.  The session is suitable for beginners as well as experienced gardeners wanting to refine their skills. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own secateurs and loppers.

The workshop reflects the Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre’s ongoing commitment to sharing practical knowledge, supporting local food resilience and strengthening community connections through accessible learning opportunities.

The free workshop and demonstration will be held at the Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre on Sunday 15 March from 10am.  All community members are welcome – registrations can be made by visiting www.dncentre.org.au/courses .

For those looking to build confidence, care for their gardens and prepare their fruit trees for the seasons ahead, this workshop offers a timely and valuable opportunity.

The Paddock Project is an initiative of Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre and proudly supported by State Government.
