The annual Daylesford Agricultural Society Show on November 25 was a huge success despite the cool, overcast conditions. More than 2000 people passed through the gates at Victoria Park, well above the 1300 people who attended the Show last year.
Dogs, horses, sheep and poultry were back this year after being cancelled due to heavy rains just prior to the Show last year.
The food and drink vans did a steady business and the Newport Bush Orchestra was on hand to provide entertainment.
The Show is organised by the Daylesford Agricultural Society but there were 18 other community organisations involved with preparation and running the show. For example, the Daylesford and District Horticultural Society organised the Hall of Flowers with stalls for local nurseries and community groups like the Friends of Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens.
The Daylesford Show remains competition oriented unlike many of the bigger agricultural shows in Melbourne, Ballarat and Bendigo. Judging got underway on the Friday before the show for produce, cooking, crafts, photography, flowers and floral art.
“It was one of the best shows we’ve had in the last ten years, said Society President, Don Harvey. “I hope we can continue this momentum leading into our 150th show next year,” he said.
The Daylesford Agricultural show is held on the fourth Saturday in November each year. Next year’s Show will be held on November 23. Entries will close about one week beforehand and entries will be required for judging by noon on Friday, November 22. Mark your calendars and get started early!
The Kingston Show is the last in Victoria for the year, and gets going from 8.30am on Saturday, December 8.
