October is shaping up to be a wonderful month for older residents across the Hepburn Shire region, with a fantastic lineup of free and low-cost events as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival. Whether you’re a movie buff, music lover, or simply looking for an afternoon out, there’s something special on offer.
The Victorian Seniors Festival celebrates the contributions and vitality of older Victorians, and this year the Hepburn Shire Council is bringing an impressive array of cultural experiences right to our doorstep—all at no cost.
Classic Films at Phoenix Cinema
Movie lovers are in for a treat with two Monday Matinee sessions at Phoenix Cinema in Daylesford. On Monday, 5 October from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, enjoy the beloved Disney-Pixar film UP, with 65 FREE tickets available. The screening includes time for morning tea and a chance to catch up with friends in a relaxed setting.
If you miss that session, don’t worry—Monday, 19 October brings another matinee screening of Song Sung Blue from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, again with 65 FREE tickets. These matinee sessions are designed with seniors in mind, featuring accessible times and a welcoming atmosphere.
Regional Concert Series
The council has partnered with neighbouring shires to bring live music to venues across the region. These hour-to-two-hour concerts feature talented local and regional artists and offer a wonderful opportunity to enjoy quality entertainment.
Dannielle De Andrea headlines two concerts: the Ballarat Country Concert on 6 October at Civic Hall Ballarat (11:00 am–12:00 pm) and the Mount Alexander Shire Country Concert on 8 October at Castlemaine Town Hall (2–3 pm). Both events offer 30 FREE tickets through the Hepburn Shire Council.
On 9 October, the Moorabool Country Concert at Bacchus Marsh Public Hall (11:00 am–12:30 pm) features Amber Joy Poulton, also with 30 FREE tickets available.
These concerts are more than just entertainment—they’re opportunities to meet neighbours, enjoy live music, and feel part of something vibrant in our wider region.
A Special Concert and Afternoon Tea
For something extra special, Reuben Morgan takes the stage on 23 October (2–4 pm) at John Curtain Aged Care, with an afternoon tea included. This concert, co-hosted by John Curtain Aged Care and the Hepburn Shire Council, offers a more intimate setting where seniors can enjoy professional entertainment alongside refreshments and community.
Getting Your Tickets
All events are designed to be accessible, with FREE or heavily subsidised tickets. To secure your place at any of these events, contact your local council or visit the Victorian Seniors Festival website for booking details. With limited numbers (particularly the 30-ticket concert events), it’s worth registering early to avoid disappointment.
Whether you’re keen on cinema classics, live country music, or a relaxed afternoon of entertainment, October offers older residents across the Hepburn Shire region a genuine reason to get out and celebrate. These events remind us that there’s always something happening locally to bring our community together.
