Council subsiding bin latches

Hepburn Shire Council is offering residents subsidised bin latches to help address common issues with bins tipping over, lids blowing open in windy conditions and animals accessing bin contents.

Mayor, Cr Tony Clark, said the initiative was about supporting residents with everyday waste management challenges while delivering positive environmental outcomes for the community.

“Windy weather and animals getting into bins can create frustration for residents and contribute to litter across our townships. Bin latches offer a simple, practical way to help keep bin lids secure and reduce the amount of rubbish escaping into the environment.”

Subsidised bin latches will be available (while supplies last and a limit of three per household) for $20 at Council transfer stations, giving residents an opportunity to access a simple solution to help keep their bins secure.

Residents can also arrange to have a bin latch installed for $5, by contacting Council via bins@hepburn.vic.gov.au to organise a suitable installation time.

“By making bin latches available at a subsidised rate, Council is helping residents access an affordable solution while encouraging everyone to play a part in keeping our community clean and protecting our local environment,” said Cr Tony Clark.
