Over the past four months, The Wombat Post has undergone a full redesign. Readers will have noticed a cleaner, more contemporary online news layout across our homepage and individual articles. We think it looks much better—and we hope you do too.
For seven years, The Wombat Post has published online and on social media, supported by a Friday afternoon email update following Thursday evening editorial meetings.
To streamline our workflow, we are updating our publishing schedule:
- Weekly Copy Deadline: Thursday at 3:00 PM (for stories, notices, and events)
- Website & Social Media Release: Thursday at 7:00 PM
- Email Digest: Friday morning
- Weekend Updates: Social media refreshes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for key stories
We will, of course, make exceptions for major breaking news on a case-by-case basis.
We have also updated our website’s backend, making it simpler to submit articles, photos, events, and notices. Additionally, our complete archive dating back to our founding in 2020 is now fully searchable, preserving local history for years to come.
Digital publishing has shifted dramatically over the past three years with the rise of artificial intelligence and Large Language Models like Gemini, Claude, and ChatGPT. While AI can generate well-written articles instantly, it often produces vapid “AI slop” that offers little real value to readers.
The Wombat Post is taking a balanced, transparent approach:
- Research & Verification: We use AI for initial research, but facts are independently verified.
- Drafting & Editing: AI assists with early drafts based on contributor notes, as well as basic copy editing.
- Human-in-the-Loop Oversight: Every article is reviewed, fact-checked, and approved by human editors. We will never use fully automated or “agentic” story generation.
- Clear Attribution: Whenever AI is used to help draft a story, it will be explicitly credited in the author byline.
Our commitment to local, accurate, and balanced journalism remains unchanged.
We always welcome your feedback—feel free to drop us a note with your thoughts and suggestions.
