Ceramics is a medium well represented in our local area and once again the Central Victorian Potters Clay Trail offers a chance to visit local makers in their studios. The open studio event on November 4/5 and November 11/12 includes 16 studios between Daylesford and Maldon.
This year, four local makers, Minna Graham, Francis Guerin, Angie Izard and Mel Ogden, are participating in the event.
“Nature is my greatest influence” said Mina Graham. “The softness and gentle warmth of spring with a memory of an icy winter. The threat of bush fire, the sweltering scorch and breathless, dry heat of summer. Autumnal colours and the smell of cut wood for the fire, are all aspects embodied in my work.” Minna Graham Ceramics is located at 2 Hogans Lane, Musk Vale.
Francis Guerin is known for her intricate, beautiful and quirky “families” inspired by theatre and mythology. Frances Guerin’s studio is located at 55 Whitegum Drive, Wheatsheaf.
Angie Izard’s wheel-thrown stoneware creates functional ware and inspires reflection. She uses stoneware clay to create small runs of wheel-thrown ceramics, which are fired in her brick kiln to bring out the individuality of each piece. Angie Izzard Ceramics is at 64 Pine Court, Porcupine Ridge.
Mel Ogden creates pieces for tableware for everyday use and vessels for Ikebana. Lois Ogden will demonstrate the practise of Sogetsu floral arrangements on Saturday, November 11 at 2:00 pm. Mel Ogden’s studio is at 35 Leonards Hill-South Bullarto Rd, South Bullarto
The event is part of the Australian Ceramics Association annual open Studio Program and makers from around the country are participating.
