A convoy of tractor and trucks blocked traffic in Lydiard Street in Ballarat earlier today (July 15).
The Stop AusNet’s Towers group is once again rallying against what they consider to be an “ill-conceived project”. They hope that the rally will ensure that the people of Ballarat and the surrounding areas are aware of the significant negative impacts of this project on their community.

Last year, AusNet outlined its proposed route for the 190km renewable energy transmission line between Bulgana and Sydenham. The proposed route passes through Kingston, Blampied and Mollongghip.
The group is advocating for a change in the route or undergrounding power lines to avoid damage and loss of productivity of fertile farming along the proposed route.
AusNet has said that the route was subject to change and a final route would be published later in the year.
In late June, Mayor, Cr Tim Drylie and Shire CEO, Bradley Thomas, met with representatives from the Electricity Division of the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources in Canberra, in relation to the Western Renewables Link (formerly Western Victoria Transmission Network). They discussed Council’s concerns with the project, including the poor community consultation undertaken, opportunities for under grounding and poor location of the Terminal Station.
Council will continue advocacy on this important project with all levels of government, and will make a strong submission on the Environmental Effects Statement once it is lodged later this year.
