Join Us to Celebrate Mexican “Day of the Dead”!

“Day of the Dead” is a Mexican celebration that brings family and friends together to remember and celebrate the lives of departed loved ones.  Traditionally held around the same time as Halloween, this is not a morbid affair – it’s about colour, flavour, joy and celebration.

And you don’t have to be Mexican!!!

We’ll be celebrating it on 5 November 2022 from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm.

Everyone is welcome to bring a photo or memento to add to the ‘ofrenda’ (altar) to honour the departed.  This can be a special person or someone who had an impact on your life. Or you could just come along and enjoy a BYO picnic on the lawns of the Neighbourhood Centre.

BYO picnic, picnic rug and chairs.  In the event of rain, we will move the event to the Paddock Room and have an indoor celebration!

We’ll also have some activities for kids.

DNC to Offer Certified Course in Child Care

DNC is seeking expressions of interest from anyone interested in undertaking a Certificate 3 Early Child Education and Care course.

The course is designed to prepare students for work as an assistant in Centre-Based Care, Occasional Care, Pre-school Centres, Family Day Care and other Children’s Services settings.

This entry level qualification covers workers who use organisation policies, procedures and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes.  Depending on the setting, workers may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

The course suits people seeking employment in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector or workers who are required to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

The course will commence in the new year, date and time to be advised once we have confirmation of numbers.

Training will be run by The Laurels Education and Training

Once expressions of interest are received, The Laurels will make contact with interested participants to arrange a time for them to meet for a pre-training review (which will be done onsite at Daylesford).

During this meeting The Laurels will explain everything they need to know about the course, course placement requirements and will also determine their eligibility for a funded place. If they are not eligible for a funded place, they can still undertake the training under a fee for service arrangement.

This qualification is delivered in the classroom. In addition to classroom training 160 hours of placement in a childcare environment is required. Our qualified trainer will visit you on-site at your placement to observe and assess this course.

Placements will be completed locally at the Daylesford Day Care Centre.

Participants will have an option to continue studies and complete a diploma in Early Child Education and Care, with The Laurels if they choose.

Expressions of interest can be made by email admin@dncentre.org.au or by calling 5348 3569.

DNC Joke of the Week

A man of a certain age walks into a library and heads to the front desk for assistance. The librarian smiles at the old man and says, “How may I help you today, sir.”

The man says loudly, “I’ll have a cheeseburger, french fries and a thick shake, please.” The librarian replies sternly, “Sir, this is the library.”

The man shrugs and whispers, “I’ll have a cheeseburger, french fries and a thickshake, please.”
