Installing Wombat Trees in Vincent Street.

Twenty-two “Wombat Trees” have been placed in Vincent St and Howe St to contribute to this year’s festive spirit.

The trees have been refreshed with 500 new wombats painted by local students. In total, nearly 1000 wombats are on display.

The project is a collaboration of the Daylesford Men’s Shed and  the Rotary Club of Daylesford  with strong support from Hepburn Shire. A team of Rotary and Mens’ Shed volunteers worked with a Shire crew on Thursday morning to move the trees from storage at Victoria Park into the town’s business district.

“It was exciting to see schools get behind the project again this year,” said Men’s Shed Project coordinator Mark Rak. “Many children kept the wombats they had painted for last year’s display so about half of the wombats are fresh, new creations this year.  It’s wonderful to again showcase the efforts of our community.”

Funding for the project was provided last year by the Community Bank Daylesford District, Daylesford Rotary Club and Hepburn Shire Council.

The trees will be on display until Dec 29th.
