Winter Sounds returns to cool country this August with Magic Dirt, Augie March, Public Figures, Kate Miller-Heidke and more.
Rug up for a weekend in Daylesford and surrounds filled with fireside sessions, frosty mornings and live music in cool spaces.
Bust out the beanies, pull on the woollies and escape to cool country this August as Winter Sounds returns to the historic churches, schoolhouses and country halls of Daylesford and the surrounding villages
Brought to the region from the producers of the award-winning Riverboats Music Festival and now in its fourth season, Winter Sounds transforms the heart of regional Victoria into a music trail, where audiences move between glowing stages and open fires, taking in the crisp country air whilst experiencing celebrated artists in unique spaces.
This year’s program runs from 27 to 30 August, opening on Thursday night with acclaimed singer-songwriter Lior performing with a string quartet inside Daylesford’s atmospheric St Peter’s Church.
On Friday evening, the choice is yours with beloved Australian indie icons Augie March taking over St Peter’s for a rare performance, while regional crusaders can board the historic Spa Country Railway for a pilgrimage by train to Bullarto Hall to experience country outlaws Henry Wagons and Queenie.
Saturday’s line-up is a fireside feast for the senses with dream-pop icon Kate Miller-Heidke at St Peter’s Church, whilst Bullarto bush hall becomes home to post punk powerhouse RomyVager with explosive rock quartet Public Figures by day, and Australian rock legends MagicDirt supported by Beans by night. Keep your journey on the right track and take the Spa Country Railway for an unforgettable adventure… stopping all stations.
Meanwhile, country favourites Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits will bring their cosmic style and sounds to the intimate Old Schoolhouse in Kooroocheang – a lovingly restored former primary school hidden within the shadow of one of the region’s largest extinct volcanoes. Enjoy a snag and a tinnie by the fire while soaking up the sounds in one of the district’s most atmospheric venues and a cult stop on the Winter Sounds trail.
Winter Sounds closes out on Sunday with folk diviner Leah Senior playing a sweet morning tea gathering at Glenlyon Community Hall, while hypnotic tower of force Pony Face presents Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska in a meditative reimagining of the iconic album supported by the gritty and grungy Milly Strange over at Bullarto Hall, and school’s out over at Kooroocheang with a performance from powerful songwriter William Crighton. Now firmly established as one of regional Victoria’s most beloved boutique winter festivals, Winter Sounds offers audiences the chance to trade city lights for a weekend of fire pits and live music, mixed with the scents of mulled wine, hot whiskey and darn-good music in some of Spa Country’s most unique and atmospheric venues. Settle in.
