VICTORIAN ELECTION MEET THE CANDIDATES’ FORUM

Daylesford and Hepburn Springs will help choose a new member of Parliament at the state election on Saturday 28 November.  Both towns are in the lower house district of Macedon and the upper house region of Northern Victoria.  Our current sitting member is Mary-Anne Thomas who is not contesting the seat for another term.

Rotary and Wombat Post are hosting a Daylesford Conversation with the major parties’ candidates for Macedon at Daylesford Town Hall from 6pm on November 5th.  There will be presentations, discussions and questions with the major parties’ candidates, plus the opportunity to meet with any independent candidates on the night. The major party candidates attending are:

Annette Death – Labor
Kate Kendall – Liberal
Marley McRae McLeod – Greens
Damien Parolin – One Nation

This is a great opportunity to become more informed on how each major party is planning on dealing with the issues that are affecting Daylesford/Hepburn Springs residents both now and into the future.

The major issues that seem to be top of the list, for the majority of Victorians currently, are centred around the economy, financial management, crime and policing, and hospitals and health services according to the majority of the news services.  These issues would all be pertinent to Daylesford/Hepburn Springs residents as well, but how the various parties plan on dealing with them at a local level will be of interest to everyone.

If you the follow the polls it is interesting to note where each party currently sits in terms of voter preference and whether this reflects your particular preference.  As quoted by The Poll Bludger website, ‘the regular monthly Resolve Strategic poll in The Age is notable in recording a three-point uptick for the Greens to 15%, with the main contenders unchanged at Labor 25%, Coalition 28% and One Nation 23%. A three-way preferred premier question has everyone up – Ben Carroll by two points to 22%, Jess Wilson by one to 29% and One Nation’s Warren Pickering by six to 14%, with undecided down from 43% to 35%’.

The poll was conducted October 6 to 10 from a sample of 1000.  Other news services support these figures.

There will be opportunity at the forum to take questions from the floor, but should you not be able to make it along, the Wombat Post would like to hear from readers about their major concerns in the form of questions.

What issues are key for Daylesford/Hepburn Springs residents in your opinion?

We look forward to hearing what issues are highest in your minds as we move to the election date. Please note that for this Daylesford Conversation the venue has changed from our regular one due to the likelihood of increased attendees.

The forum will be held at the Daylesford Town Hall on November 5th. from 6-8 pm.  If you wish to come along you will need to register for a ticket (no charge) using this link https://www.trybooking.com/DQMBT
