Gordon Nightingale
They tried hard to keep it secret,
But I finally saw the light.
They tried so hard to hide the truth,
To keep it from my sight.
I had to know the reasons,
I knew I had the right.
Did they really think I’d go away?
Give up without a fight?
Kept so long in darkness
There was no light for me to see.
Trapped in walls devoid of windows,
With a longing to be set free,
To break away the bonds of silence,
Burst the bolted door to flee
The barriers inside my head;
And the prison that is me.
Now I am party to the secret,
My eyes can see again the light.
Now I know the difference;
Which is day and which is night.
Now I understand the reasons
That were kept locked up so tight,
For fear I might discover
Who was wrong and who was right.
