Sound and projection equipment is now being steadily installed at the Phoenix @The Rex Cinema in Daylesford.
With $95,796 raised in 18 months, organisers are confident of meeting their $100,000 goal.
“This keeps us on track to open early in April, says cinema group president Jules McDonald.
“As envisaged, after the amazing donations of $20,000 by an anonymous couple, and by Lahn and Anton Straney-Kraft, whose challenge to the community to match their $20,000 on a dollar for dollar basis generated great enthusiasm.
“It also motivated the community to get behind us leading to sizeable donations by others.”
She said there had been enormous help in installing the equipment from Lewis Thorne, Operations Manager at the famous art deco Sun Theatre, Yarraville, and a Board Member Independent Cinemas Australia.
