Daylesford and surrounding areas are set to become the backdrop for Australia’s popular renovation competition reality TV series, The Block, with filming officially commencing this Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8.
Local businesses, including accommodation providers, restaurants, artisans, and tradespeople, stand to gain from increased patronage by the production crew, cast, and eager fans who may visit the region.
Hepburn Shire Mayor, Cr Don Henderson, expressed enthusiasm for the production, highlighting the extensive exposure and economic benefits the show will bring. “Hosting The Block is an excellent opportunity for our Shire. It will deliver noticeable economic benefits and showcase our beautiful landscape, rich history, and vibrant community to millions of viewers across the country,” said Cr Henderson. “As filming takes place over the next few months, we look forward to the business The Block will bring to our accommodation providers, cafes, restaurants, local trades, and suppliers.”
Beyond the construction of architecturally impressive homes, Cr Henderson emphasised the long-term advantages of the show’s presence, noting that it will cement Daylesford’s reputation as a must-visit destination for both local and international travellers.
While the show’s presence is expected to bring a significant economic boost and national exposure to the Hepburn Shire, residents and visitors should also prepare for temporary traffic disruptions in several locations.

To ensure the safe and smooth running of filming activities, traffic management will be in place at various locations:
- Friday, March 7: Traffic controllers will be active in the afternoon at:
- Hepburn-Newstead Road, Hepburn (between Twentieth Street and Charlies Road)
- Smith Street, Daylesford
- Bridport Street, Daylesford
- Daylesford-Clunes Road, Lawrence
- Saturday, March 8: Mink Street, Daylesford, will be closed from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm, with access limited to residents and businesses.
Local businesses have been encouraged to take advantage of the influx of production crew and visitors. Insights from Destination Phillip Island, which previously hosted The Block, suggest the production team actively supports local businesses and sources materials locally. Monday night team dinners have been confirmed to take place within the region, further boosting hospitality revenue.
While it is difficult to quantify the exact spending impact, past experiences indicate that filming locations see a rise in visitation during and after production, with strong PR and advertising exposure boosting the area’s profile. Businesses are urged to prepare for an increase in day-trippers, who may visit hoping to catch a glimpse of the teams and their signature Block vehicles.
Council officers have been working closely with production crews to minimise disruption, but residents and visitors are advised to be mindful of filming locations and any associated road closures.
