The Block showcased their arrival in Daylesford with contestants highlighting the annual ChillOut parade. The parade was considered by many to be the most colourful, vibrant and well organised parade in recent history. In a collaboration between ChillOut and The Block, contestants paraded in colourful floats created specially for the occasion.
Belle Property Daylesford principal Will Walton anticipates that The Block will boost the local real estate market, especially as the newly constructed homes become available in spring 2025.
Beyond real estate, the economic benefits of the production are already evident. With 150 to 200 people—including cast, crew, and builders—working on the show, local businesses are seeing increased activity. Cafés, bakeries, and accommodation venues are experiencing higher demand, with many short-term rentals booked for the duration of filming. This increase in visitors is providing a welcome boost to the hospitality and retail sectors.
The long-term effects of The Block’s presence are also a focal point. Steve Wroe, CEO of Daylesford Macedon Tourism, emphasized that tourism plays a crucial role in the regional economy. He believes that national exposure through the show will encourage ongoing visitation well beyond the filming period. While immediate benefits include increased trade, the lasting impact will come from showcasing Daylesford’s appeal to a broader audience.
In addition to the economic advantages, the transformation of the Middleton Field site marks a significant development for the area. Although some are concerned that the Middleton Fields development will detract from the “country town” feel of Daylesford, others see the newly constructed homes contributing to a dynamic and evolving Daylesford landscape keeping pace with the surging demand for housing across the state.
As filming continues over the coming months, Daylesford stands to gain from the national spotlight, increased tourism, and economic stimulation. The combination of media exposure and real estate development will likely contribute positively to the economic sustainability of the town.
