Young local, Abbey Wehrung, is embarking on a 300 km horse ride for breast cancer.
The ride is in honour of her Mum, Kerryn, who died from breast cancer in July 2020. Abbey will be joined by her older brothers, Nathan and Dan, and a group of family and friends, all decked out in hot pink shirts.
Abbey’s “Big Adventure 2.0 Ride for Kez” will set off from Korweingie on Saturday September 16th. Their destination is Glenisla, in the foothills of the Grampians, near where Abbey’s Mum grew up.

Abbey and her family completed a similar ride 20 years ago, raising funds for epilepsy. Abbey and her brothers have lost both their parents since their last big ride, and it was Abbey’s dream to recreate the adventure and raise money for a cause close to her heart.
Recreation reserves, showgrounds, and even private properties along the 300 km route, have offered campsites, free of charge, in support of Abbey’s cause.
The entourage of horses, caravans, camper trailers, horse floats, utes and trailers, will cover 25 – 30 km per day, staying in locations such as Kingston, Lexton, Elmshurst, Landsborough and Glenorchy. Country people have been incredibly generous and their offers of help are so appreciated.
Abbey and a few of the riders and organisers, will be at the Korweinguboora Recreation Reserve on Sunday September 3rd from 1-4 pm for a sausage sizzle to kick of their fund raising campaign. All proceeds from the event will go to the very worthy cause.
“We’re hoping lots of people drop in, have a sausage and a chat,” said Abbey, “and help us raise $20,000 for breast cancer.”
