St. Michael’s Primary School has recently acquired a brand new automated external defibrillator (AED) with support from a $1500 grant from the Community Bank, Daylesford District.
Defibrillators are medical devices used to deliver an electrical shock to the heart to help restore its normal rhythm. The prompt use of a defibrillator can increase the chance of survival by up to 70%.
The St Michael’s defibrillator has special paediatric adapters for use on children.
The defibrillator is compact and portable, meaning it can easily be taken to the site of an emergency.
A school spokesperson said, “While we hope that we, or any members of the Daylesford community, don’t need to use this device, it does provide peace of mind knowing that effective first aid treatment is available should it ever be required. Many thanks to the team from Community Bank Daylesford District.”

Another defibrillator has recently been installed by Council at the Daylesford Visitor Information Centre (VIC).
St John’s Ambulance Victoria has a web page which lists registered AEDs by location. The page currently lists 7 AEDs in the Daylesford-Hepburn Springs area. The list does not yet include the St Michael’s or the Visitor Information Centre AEDs. There are probably other AEDs in the area which are not registered.
