Works are underway on the second stage of the Daylesford-Coomoora walking trail. The works are being undertaken at the Daylesford-Malmsbury Road intersection to install the path along Matts Lane where it will connect to the path at Leitches Creek Road completed in the first stage of the project.

The project was originally identified as a priority in the 2016 Walking and Cycling Strategy. Stage 1 in 2019/20 was funded by Council and Stage 2 has been funded by the Federal government’s ‘Local roads and community infrastructure’ grant.

The path is being constructed in recycled concrete which is both more sustainable and gives a more durable finished product. None of the trees along the route will be removed as the path has been designed to work around any existing trees.

Once complete the trail length will be about 3.6km. Works were also complete in 2018 to improve pedestrian access across Wallaby Creek via the old VicRoads bridge forming a Eastern extension to the trail.

Works are expected to take four weeks, weather permitting.
