Plantfulness joins Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre to grow community from the ground up

The Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre Paddock Project is coming to life, with support from Victorian not-for-profit Plantfulness, whose volunteers recently joined local community members for a day of digging, clearing and planting the seeds of something much bigger than a garden.

Centre volunteers Diana, Lindee and Noah worked alongside the Plantfulness team to prepare the space for a vibrant, inclusive community garden.  Together, they cleared overgrown areas, designed garden beds and laid the groundwork for the Centre’s next phase: a community chook run, and the cultivation of fresh, seasonal produce for locals to harvest and cook with.

As part of their visit, Plantfulness donated a generous range of quality tools, gathered from The Block, with support from Trojan Tools.  These tools will stay with the Centre to empower ongoing community use.

“We believe deeply in the power of community,” said Kate Moran, Coordinator at Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre.  “This project is about more than growing food – it’s about growing community connection, confidence and resilience. The Paddock Project is full of possibility.”

The Paddock Project will continue throughout the year, with upcoming planting days, workshops and garden-to-table sessions that invite locals of all ages to get involved.  The long-term vision includes an accessible community garden, egg-laying hens and seasonal harvests to share.

DNC Joke of the Week

A new supermarket has just opened near my house.

It has an automatic water mister to keep the produce fresh.  Just before it activates, you hear the sound of distant thunder and catch the scent of fresh rain.

When you approach the milk section, you hear cows mooing and experience the aroma of fresh hay.

Near the egg case, hens cluck and cackle, and the air fills with the delicious smell of bacon and eggs frying.

The vegetable department features the scent of fresh, buttered corn.

I don’t buy toilet paper there anymore.

[If you’ve got a better joke, (and doesn’t everyone??) send it to admin@dncentre.org.au and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! 😊).  We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
