A performance of Donizetti’s grand comic opera, Don Pasquale will be held at Christ Church in Daylesford on the 5th of June from 2.00 pm to 5.30 pm. The show will be put on by Mr Lyster’s Touring Colonial Opera making its first appearance in Daylesford.
Don Pasquale will feature Helen Koehne, Adam Jon, Hew Wagner, Jamie Moffat, Trevor Mills, Jessica Joan Graham, Adelaide Soccio Greenaway, Josh Morton-Galea, Thomas Saar and musical direction by Pam Christie – one performance only.
Don Pasquale was first performed in Paris in January 1843. It is the story of Ernesto’s clash with his uncle Don Pasquale over his intention to marry the lovely, but poor Norina.
The Opera will be performed in the tradition of the great touring companies of the gold rush era. Adam Jon who is playing the role of Malatesta, Don Pasquale’s physician and friend, was set to perform the role in Italy when COVID hit and he had to come home to Australia. He is very excited that he didn’t learn the role for nothing and he gets to sing it in Daylesford.
Don Pasquale is considered Donizetti’s masterpiece and has been regularly performed since it’s premier. Tickets are available online here
