Changing of the Guard
At their monthly meeting last week, the DNC Committee of Management and staff said farewell to our long-serving, much-admired Chair, Gina Lyons.
Gina is well known to many in the Daylesford community for her engagement and activism in many community issues but her most notable contribution has been in her role as Chair of the DNC Committee of Management over the past five years.
Gina took on the role when the DNC was going through a difficult time. Her clear thinking, sensitive people management and exceptional leadership steered DNC through a time of diminishing government financial support and the ravages of COVID.
She leaves DNC a very robust and well-patronised community asset as she moves on to the next phase of her life.
All at DNC are grateful to her for her service and wish her well.
Her place has been taken by Hal Swerissen in an interim capacity until a permanent nominee can be elected at the AGM on Wednesday 26 April 2023.
 Are You a Would-be Knitter?
If last winter is anything to go by, we’re going to need all the winter woollies we can get come May ’23. But prices have gone up tremendously, so consider making your own! Knitting is the way to go. And it will help fill in those idle hours indoors when the icy southerlies batter us!
Our Introduction to Knitting course is commencing on Thursday 2 March. It’s not too late to take part in this group. Knitters of all abilities are welcome, but beginners especially will be catered for. The course will cover all aspects of:
- Becoming familiar with knitting terms
- Basic knit stitches
- How to shape work; increasing and decreasing stitches
- Master ribbing and blocking
- How to read patterns – and so much more!
The course will run for 8 weeks and the course fee of $35 covers all materials!

Free Legal Advisory Service a Huge Success
DNC and the Ballarat & Grampians Community Legal Service (BGCLS) are continuing to provide the very popular and successful free legal advice service for residents of the Hepburn Shire.  We’ve been overwhelmed by the number of community members taking advantage of this program.
Next date for appointments in Daylesford is on 8 March from 10am.
Appointments are conducted at the Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre.
All appointments are taken by the BGCLS office, so call them on 5331 5999 to book your time.

Joke(s) of the Week
I love the way the earth rotates. It really makes my day!
How many tickles does it take to make a squid laugh? Ten-tickles!
How much money does a pirate pay for corn? Â A buccaneer.
What’s the best thing about Switzerland?  I don’t know, but the flag is a big plus.
I invented a new word – Plagiarism!
[If you’ve got a better joke, send it to admin@dncentre.org.au and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! ?). We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
