Exciting News

There is great excitement at DNC this week.  We’ve just been advised that we are to receive a grant of $10,000 from the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) as part of their Strengthening Rural Communities Program.

The grant is to create a co-working space at the Centre.

DNC has a large room that will be fitted out to provide a creative and collaborative co-working space.  It will have a combination of modern office equipment, and inspiring decor that supports creative collaborations.

Since the pandemic and lock-downs, the work-from-home trend has been embedded across the Hepburn Shire, with a large influx of tree-changers and locals with Melbourne based jobs choosing to work from home.  However, internet and mobile services are patchy at best across the Shire, with more remote areas unable to access NBN, impeding peoples’ ability to work from home.

Hepburn Shire Council identified a need for co-working spaces, which were to be included in the Community Hub project. However, this project is currently on hold after cancellation of the Hepburn Hub at the Rex project and is awaiting alternative plans to be finalised. Thanks to the FRRR grant, DNC will fill this gap.

We already have a number of community members using our spaces for remote working, because not all home spaces are suitable for productive work because of:

  • Families with high needs children or adults who can be disruptive
  • Lack of physical work space
  • Lack of privacy
  • No NBN available or affordable
  • Lack of mobile reception

DNC already plays a key community hub role, and is known for being a welcoming place to gather, learn and share.  By adding a ‘welcoming place to work’ we will increase the usefulness of the Centre within the community, and help fill a gap created by the cancellation of the Rex project.

Reminder – DNC Annual General Meeting

The DNC AGM will be held at the Centre at 6.00pm on 26 April 2023.  Put it in your calendar.  Please join us.  Annie Duncan, President of Daylesford U3A will be our guest speaker.   Annie has had an illustrious career as one of Australia’s leading science researchers.  She will be speaking about her involvement with and encouragement of women in science.  Light refreshments will be served.

Come along and hear how the DNC provides invaluable service to the Daylesford community.  And maybe you’d like to join our happy band of volunteers.  This would be a good forum to take that first step.

What’s the difference between death and taxes?  Parliament doesn’t meet every year to make death worse.
