Notes from Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre

Something for Everyone at Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre This Term

There’s plenty happening at the Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre this Term 4, with the October to December program bringing together old favourites and a range of new opportunities to get creative, learn practical skills, improve wellbeing and connect with others.

Among the new offerings this term is Art Alive, a six-week creative expression program beginning Tuesday 20 October.  Facilitated by Catherine Le Roux and Kate Moran, Art Alive uses art as a way to explore, connect and express, both individually and as a group.

Telling Tales is a new six-week program exploring the art of storytelling through film.  Created and presented by award-winning Trentham-based screenwriter and playwright Darren Markey, it’s ideal for aspiring storytellers, film enthusiasts and anyone who simply loves film and performance.

Also joining the program this term is Latin Dance Classes with Diane, creating even more ways for community members to connect, get moving and try something different.

For those looking to build practical skills and confidence, First Aid and Community Self Defence are also part of the term’s offerings.  The Self Defence session will be held on Monday 12 October, providing an accessible opportunity for community members to learn practical personal-safety skills.

Alongside the new programs, many popular regular activities are returning.  There’s Yoga with Jan, Eight Silken Movements, Basketball, Pickleball and Volleyball for those wanting to get moving, while the creative and social program includes beginner and intermediate ukulele, French Alive, the Honeytones Choir and the All Abilities Group.

The Centre’s Paddock Project also has a busy few months ahead.  Activities include plant propagation, a Tipperary Springs walking tour, water-wise gardening and shade-making, a Community Day focused on art and sustainability and upcoming native pollinator and fairy corridor activities.

The new Dungeons & Dragons group meets weekly, with Dungeon Master Phoenix leading players on wonderful adventures across fantastical worlds.  New and experienced adventurers are welcome to join.

FUSE Youth Drop-In at the ARC provides a space for young people to hang out, cook, eat, share and simply be, while Wednesday afternoon basketball clinics offer an inexpensive way to learn skills, build confidence and have fun.

Of course, the Good Grub Club continues to serve delicious meals each Thursday, with a well-stocked pantry available for those who may need a little extra help with grocery items.

The Centre continues to provide practical community support throughout the week, including Computer Help, Life Admin, Death Café, free legal support and onsite employment and training services.

Term 4 is all about making it easy to participate.  Whether you want to make art, dance, learn a new skill, spend time in the garden, meet new people or simply find a welcoming place to drop in, there’s something happening at the Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre.
