The 2024 Council Election will be held by postal vote. Voting closes at 6:00 pm on Friday, 25 October. Ballot packs will be mailed to all voters on the electoral roll between Monday, October 7 and Thursday, October 10.

The election will be conducted by a full preferential ballot. Voters must number their ballot in preferential order from 1 to 12 for their vote to be valid. Voting is compulsory.

For the first time, voters will elect seven councillors at large for the whole of the Shire. Since 1995, when the Shire was created, voters have elected seven councillors from five wards.

Nominations closed on Tuesday of this week and Council is now in the Election Period until 6pm, Saturday, 26 October. During this period, there are restrictions on the kinds of decisions that can be made and the information from Council in communications to the public. Council communications will be very neutral in an attempt to ensure that Council does nothing that could influence voters or give an unfair advantage to any candidate running for election. More information on the Election Period Policy is available on the Council website.

There are no Council Meetings scheduled during the Election Period.

In coming weeks, The Wombat Post will provide statements from individual candidates. We are currently contacting candidates requesting information and offering opportunities to support their election.

Hepburn Radio will also interview all candidates and make the interviews available as podcasts.
