Council is working with local organisations and businesses to make Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) more accessible at all hours of the day and night.
Defibrillators are medical devices used to deliver an electrical shock to the heart to help restore its normal rhythm. The prompt use of a defibrillator can increase the chance of survival by up to 70%.
To date, all of the publicly available AEDs have been inside buildings and accessible only during business/office hours. Two newly installed defibrillators at the Town Hall and the Library in Daylesford are located in AED cabinets mounted outside buildings and are available 24/7.
Council purchased the AED for the Town Hall. Rotary funded the AED at the Library and Blooms the Chemist will install a third AED outside their shop in Vincent Street.
Other publicly available AEDs are located inside buildings. The newly installed devices will be accessible at any time of the day or night. More 24/7 accessible AED installations are planned for other parts of the Shire in coming months.
The current location of local, publicly accessible AEDs are:
- Daylesford Library (24/7 accessible)
- Daylesford Town Hall (24/7 accessible)
- Daylesford Visitor Information Center (Accessible during business hours)
- Daylesford Duke Street Customer Service (Accessible during business hours)
- Daylesford Bowls Club, Duke Street ((Accessible during business hours)
All Council-owned AEDs are registered with Ambulance Victoria as are may other publicly available defibrillators. To locate an AEDs in any area, you can check the Ambulance Victoria AED register. You can also use the same website to register a new AED.
Remember, always call 000 in an emergency.
