Victorian motorists can now compare fuel prices in real time with a new feature on the Service Victoria app called Servo Saver. The app draws data directly from service stations across the state, helping drivers find the cheapest fuel in their area or along their route. The new feature builds on the Service Victoria platform, which now provides access to more than 170 government services online.

More than 1,200 retailers are already reporting their prices through a new mandatory system introduced as part of the State Government’s Fair Fuel Plan. Previously, fuel price reporting in Victoria was voluntary, and information on prices was often incomplete or inconsistent.

A review of local service stations indicated that Daylesford prices were intermediate between Ballarat and stations to the north-east in Kyneton or Castlemaine with considerable savings available in Ballarat stations. Some local stations such as the Mobil stations on the Western Highway in Ballan and the Metro station on the Midland Highway in Daylesford are not included even though reporting through the app has been mandatory since August.

Premier Jacinta Allan said the new system aims to give consumers better access to accurate price information. “We’re capping and locking fuel price rises and helping you save money at the servo,” she said. “These savings can add up to hundreds of dollars a year for families who are doing it tough.”

Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas, said the app would make a practical difference for regional drivers. “Servo Saver will help Macedon locals find the best deal and save on their weekly petrol spend,” she said.

Minister for Consumer Affairs Nick Staikos said the initiative is designed to help both motorists and retailers. “Servo Saver enables motorists to make informed decisions about where to fill up, while giving retailers greater control over how they advertise their petrol prices,” he said.

The Fair Fuel Plan also proposes that fuel prices be capped once a day, preventing sudden price increases while allowing stations to reduce prices at any time.

Servo Saver is available now through the Service Victoria app.
