“Let’s go to the movies at the Rex tonight!”  We’re not far  from being able to do this.

As reported recently, the Daylesford Cinema Group raised $50,000 from three events making it  well on the way towards raising the $150,000 needed for projection equipment. Then it will be ready to go.

Any contributions,  large or small,  will make a difference.  It is tax deductible and  to contribute simply click on this link:

The Phoenix@The Rex Community Cinema  will provide a quality cultural experience, bringing a range of people together to socialise and be entertained.  It will also provide a new place for the community to gather.

The Age Good Weekend magazine has just reported on both the rise in the number of people going to cinemas and the increase in their popularity, with a younger generation in their twenties and thirties discovering them for the first time. And while viewing patterns have changed, Sydney University historian Dr James Findlay notes that there will always be a yearning for the collective experience and spectacle of cinema.

The Rex will screen a mixture of carefully curated offerings for locals and visitors, including first and second releases, films associated with local festivals, plus events as well as providing a venue for other suitable community activities. The plan is to show films every week of the year, with evening and matinee screenings. More screenings will be scheduled during school holidays and at film festivals

As cinema group president Jules McDonald says, “Let’s get our local cinema and gathering place off the ground!”
