Over the weekend of Saturday 3 August and Sunday 4 August, a series of events will celebrate our wonderful winter gardens – the Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens and the Convent Garden.

The event has come about as a partnership between some of our oldest and well established organisations –  Friends of Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens, Daylesford & District Horticultural Society, Daylesford & District Historical Society, Daylesford & District Agricultural Society (Daylesford Show), Hepburn U3A and The Convent.

The weekend will feature exceptional talks pertinent to public and botanic gardens, their history and future directions.

Arborist and Horticulturalist, John Beetham, will lead a guided walking tour of the gardens, an opportunity to sight all the significant trees.

Janet O’Hehir from the Camperdown Botanic Gardens and Arboretum will speak on Victoria’s Botanic Garden Legacy.

A Celebration Dinner on Saturday evening August 3 will be a special event. Not only will this be the last event in the Town Hall before refurbishment but the Guest Speaker will be renowned Hellebore specialist Peter Leigh.

A Flower Competition run to the usual rules of the November Daylesford Show but will allow an opportunity to display winter flowers not usually seen in November.

The Museum will conduct one of their excellent exhibitions using a lot of material they have related to Wombat Hill.

The organisers are very grateful to both Hepburn Shire Council and Daylesford and District Community Bank for their sponsorship and  support of this significant event.
