The Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio has moved to protect a number of areas around Daylesford and Hepburn Springs from gold mining.

This follows a concerted campaign to prevent mining exploration by Red Rock Resources by concerned local residents as part of the Don’t Undermine Daylesford Campaign.

In a letter to the local member Mary-Anne Thomas, the Minister states:

“Red Rock Resources will be excising areas of the licence in and around Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. The Earth Resources Regulator will be placing an exemption over these areas, which will prevent future mining or exploration applications being made in the excised areas. I hope this will provide greater clarity and certainty for the local community.”

The Wombat Post understands that the Mayor Brian Hood, has requested information to clarify the exact areas that will be protected.

The Don’t Undermine Daylesford Group will also continue to pursue the regulators to protect the local aquifer and obtain a broad protection from mining for the local area, including the National Park.
