Local man Stuart Lee has been charged with murder and arson.
The 63 year old was arrested on Tuesday and charged following the death of a 69 year old man who was allegedly attacked and set alight in Wheatsheaf.
Police said an altercation broke out between the 69-year-old and a 63-year-old man just before 10.30am.
Police allege that a fight broke out between the two men at a property in Wheatsheaf leading to  the victim being set alight. He was flown to the Alfred Hospital where he subsequently died.
The Ballarat magistrates’ court heard that Mr Lee has some physical and mental health issues. He has not been in custody previously.
Mr Lee refused to appear in court on Wednesday when his charges were read out. Magistrate Hugh Radford remanded him to appear for a committal hearing later this year on the 1st of June.
