The 12th Lake Daylesford swim, was held in a different format, this year due to COVID restrictions. Nonetheless, there was successful fundraising from the event for Fundaceo LafaekDiak (The Good Crocodile Foundation) in Triloka East Timor.
A total of $2810 was raised from the event. East Timor has had a difficult past year with recent flooding, causing widespread road damage, an increasing number of COVID-19 cases and rising food staple prices due to border restrictions with West Timor.
After discussions with staff members in East Timor it was decided to purchase much needed basic medical equipment to deal with the increasing COVID-19 cases. This equipment was sent via Nazereth Catholic College Adelaide which has a container leaving for Dili in early May.
Race committee member, Tim Bach, was impressed by the generosity of the swimmers who took part in this year’s event and hopes next year’s event will also be able to support this worthwhile medical and community organisation that is locally run and administered.
“Hopefully next year’s event will see swimmers in the water at the same time!” said Mr Bach.
