Joel Chadwick named as new CEO of Destination Central Victoria

Following a comprehensive and highly competitive recruitment process, Destination Central Victoria (DCV) is delighted to announce the appointment of Joel Chadwick as Chief Executive Officer. Bringing significant expertise in regional tourism leadership and a strong connection to the Central Victoria, Joel will lead the organisation as it continues to champion the region’s visitor economy and long-term growth.

Joel joins DCV from Tourism Midwest Victoria, where he has held a number of senior leadership roles, including Acting Executive Manager Visitor Economy. He also currently serves as Chair of Australian Regional Tourism Ltd, having previously served as a board director and treasurer since 2022.

A proud local with deep roots in the region, Joel was born in Maryborough and has held key tourism-focused roles with Central Goldfields Shire and the City of Ballarat, positioning him well to drive DCV’s strategic agenda across the LGA areas of Hepburn, Macedon Ranges, Mount Alexander and Central Goldfields.

“I am honoured to be joining Destination Central Victoria at such an exciting time for the region. As we roll out the new Victoria’s Heartland brand, there is a significant opportunity to build awareness, drive visitation and further cement the region’s reputation as one of Australia’s most distinctive regional destinations,” Joel said.

“I look forward to working closely with industry, local government, Traditional Owners, community leaders and government partners to further strengthen the visitor economy and ensure tourism continues to deliver lasting benefits for our communities.”

“My focus will be on collaboration, innovation and sustainable growth, ensuring Victoria’s Heartland continues to be a Place of Plenty for visitors, businesses and local communities alike.” Joel said.

DCV was formed last year, evolving from Daylesford Macedon Tourism, to unite four shires under a single regional tourism authority. Backed and funded by both State and Local Government, DCV leads tourism development, promotion, and collaboration across the four local government areas under the new Visitor Economy Partnership model.

“On behalf of the DCV Board, I warmly congratulate Joel Chadwick on his appointment as Chief Executive Officer. Joel brings extensive regional tourism leadership, a deep local understanding, and a proven track record of delivering outcomes for communities.” Dianne Smith, Chair of the DCV Board said.

“I would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Paul Matthews for his outstanding support as Interim CEO since the passing of former CEO Steve Wroe late last year. Paul’s dedication has been instrumental in maintaining momentum and stability across the organisation during this transition. We look forward to Joel taking DCV into an exciting new chapter for the region.” Dianne said.

Joel will commence in the role of CEO of Destination Central Victoria on Monday 10 August, 2026.
