Now that The Block is wrapping much of its work in Daylesford it has disclosed that contestants helped renovate the Phoenix@ The Rex Cinema and foyer, with all costs, materials and labour covered as part of the challenge.
This will be revealed when the show airs later in the year.
A Block spokesperson said: “We were delighted to film a challenge at the Phoenix @ the Rex Cinema, which we hope the local community will be very excited about when they see the final result.
“Our contestants spent a week renovating the iconic cinema and foyer and loved the challenge, getting involved in a project that has real significance to the Daylesford community.”
The spokesperson said that the exact results could not be revealed yet because this was to be a surprise for viewers. “We hope when the Rex opens to the public, it will be cherished and loved by the local and surrounding communities.”
The cinema occupies the first floor at the front of The Rex building. While the foyer and cinema space have received attention, the rest of the building remains incomplete. The ground floor and rear of The Rex are still a construction zone, and the building’s entrance, which has been boarded up for seven years, requires further renovation before the cinema can open to the public.
The Daylesford Cinema Society has been actively fundraising to purchase new projection equipment. However, installation has not yet taken place.
The completion of the fit out is a welcome development and the Cinema Society is one step closer to Phoenix Rising!
