This Saturday, 6 December, Daylesford will once again come alive with the music, colour and community spirit of the 74th Daylesford Highland Gathering, a traditional community event that dates back to 1952.

The festivities begin at 9 am with the much-anticipated Pipe Band Street March down Vincent Street, a thunderous procession featuring over 20 bands and around 300 bagpipes and drums that will wake the town with unmistakable Highland flair.

From there it’s all happening in Victoria Park, where there will be something for everyone.

The full program includes the state’s Highland-dance championships, a multi-grade Pipe Band competition, and the return of the Highland Heavy Games with traditional events such as caber-tossing, hammer and stone-put, and more feats of strength and skill.

New this year, the Barwon Academy of Arts will present a swordsmanship display, adding another dynamic cultural dimension to the Gathering.

Families will find plenty to enjoy: a Celtic-style market selling Scottish wares, whiskey tastings, “haggis burgers”, stands showcasing Highland-breed dogs and cattle, and a dedicated Kidszone offering games and activities for younger visitors.

The Gathering is as much a homecoming as a celebration. For more than 70 years, the “clan” has gathered in Daylesford to celebrate Scottish culture, including music, dance, games, food and friendship, attracting locals and visitors from across Victoria and beyond.

If you’re curious to see the full timetable or plan your visit, the detailed program is available at the official Daylesford Highland Gathering website: daylesfordhighland.com/whatson

So dust off your kilt, brush your collies, rally your friends and family and head to Vic Park this weekend for a celebration of everything Celtic.
